Understand the property
Site access, grade, drainage, utilities, views, existing patios, and the relationship to the home all influence the design and construction plan. A strong plan works with the property instead of treating it as a blank rectangle.
Plan the pool and outdoor space together
Decking, paths, seating, shade, water features, lawn, and gathering areas determine how comfortably the backyard functions. Discussing them early helps the finished space feel cohesive and can prevent expensive changes later.
Choose features around real priorities
Slides, spas, benches, shallow areas, lighting, water features, and automation all add something different. Rank the features your family will use most, then build the design and budget around those priorities.
Consider the equipment as a system
Pumps, filters, heaters, sanitizing equipment, and automation work together. Equipment choices should match the pool, desired season, maintenance expectations, and the way you want to control the system.
Build a realistic project range
There is no single useful price for every Utah custom pool. Size, access, engineering, pool type, finishes, equipment, decking, water features, and outdoor construction all matter. A property-specific conversation produces a more honest range.
Ask about the sequence and communication
Permitting, weather, site conditions, material availability, and project complexity affect timing. Ask how the work is sequenced, how updates are shared, and who you contact when questions come up.
